Alumni Leadership Scholarship
Purpose: The purpose of the Alumni Leadership Scholarship is to recruit students who have outstanding records of leadership and to also reward excellence in leadership among UM students.
Criteria & Guidelines:
- Applicants must be entering freshmen.
- Applicants must be accepted for admission to the University of Montevallo.
- Applicants must be actively involved in and/or in leadership roles in both their school and community. Proof of leadership must include activity involvement outside of their religious affiliation.This may be done through a portfolio, written essay form, pictures and/or other documentation.
- Applicants must write a one page essay explaining why they want to attend UM and how their leadership and academic qualities would be an asset to the university.
- Applicants must submit at least two but no more than three letters of recommendation. Only one letter may be from a leader of a religious affiliation.
- Completed online application.
- Those selected will be required to volunteer 7-10 hours in the Alumni Office or Admissions Office over the course of the year. (Contact the Alumni Office for more information)

Amount: The amount of the scholarship is $7,000 per academic year.
Deadline: March 1 for renewal submissions
Alumni Leadership Scholarship Renewal
Criteria for Renewal:
- Evidence of leadership and/or participation on the UM campus in a club or UM sponsored organization and/or participation in the UM community during the previous year.
- At least 2 but no more than 3 letters from sponsors, community leaders or any other adult or faculty member who would be able to advocate for the student’s leadership involvement in activities related to the UM community and/or the UM campus.
- Maintenance of a 3.0 cumulative overall GPA average which includes all grades earned at UM and transferred from other institutions.
- An essay of 250-300 words, describing the student’s previous year as a UM student and possible goals and aspirations for the next academic year. Please include the student’s view on the importance of obtaining a degree from UM.

Alumni Legacy Scholarship
Purpose: The purpose of the Alumni Legacy Scholarship is to recruit the children and/or grandchildren of active alumni* to attend the University of Montevallo and to provide a scholarship in honor of the commitment of graduates who contribute to the development of the University of Montevallo.
Criteria & Guidelines:
- Students who are children or grandchildren of active alumni donors* are eligible to apply.
The parent or grandparent must hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from UM and be considered an active donor to the UM Foundation for three of the past five years. Alumni giving for the purposes of determining active status must be completed before the July 1 scholarship deadline in the current year. - Interested students indicate they are children or grandchildren of a UM graduate on the application.
- The number of scholarships awarded will be based upon the availability of funds.

Amount: The amount of the scholarship is $500 for one academic year, which may be used at the University of Montevallo bookstore to purchase books and supplies as needed to assist in the successful transition to college.

Junior Alumni Board Leadership Scholarship
Purpose: The purpose of the Junior Alumni Board Leadership Scholarship is to reward students who are excelling academically and who have outstanding records of leadership in school or community service.
Criteria & Guidelines:
- Applicants must be a sophomore, junior or senior student at the University of Montevallo or a junior or community college transfer student in pursuit of a degree in their field of study.
- Applicants must have no less than a cumulative 3.0 GPA from their current university, college or post-secondary school at the time of application.
- Applicants must be actively involved in their school or community.
- Applicants must write a two-page paper to include the following:
- List school or community’s activities, including offices held and awards received.
- Describe college goals, including the intended degree(s).
- Describe areas of interest in field of study.
- Provide an answer to the following question, “What do you believe makes the University of Montevallo a great university?”
- Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation.

Amount: For the upcoming academic school year, the amount of the one-time scholarship is $1,000. The award will be distributed in the fall and spring semesters.
Deadline: March 1
The University of Montevallo will not permit students to receive any institutional scholarship funds beyond the direct cost of attendance which includes tuition, fees, room, board, and books in a refund. This does not affect any outside sources of aid such as veteran benefits, PACT, external agency scholarships, federal grants, and loans.
